The Seven Step Production Roadmap for a Grosvenor and Guild Masterpiece
From raw manuscript to leather bound archive: what happens inside our workshop.

Clients often ask what happens between sending files and receiving books. Here is the entire journey, stage by stage, so you know exactly what you are paying for.
Step one: specification
Every project begins with a conversation about purpose. Who will hold this book, where will it live and what must it communicate. From that we agree trim size, extent, paper, cloth, foil, binding and extras. Our quote calculator gives an instant estimate. A written specification follows and a printed dummy is produced for approval where the project warrants it.
Step two: file preparation
Your files are preflighted for resolution, bleed, fonts, colour space and page geometry. Images are converted to the profile for the chosen paper. Any issues are reported back with clear instructions rather than silently corrected.
Step three: paper and material selection
Stock is ordered against the specification and conditioned in the workshop so that moisture content is stable before printing. Cloth, foil, ribbon, headband and endpaper are pulled and laid out together for a final visual check against the approved swatches.
Step four: proofing
Hard proofs are produced for all critical spreads. For illustrated and fine art projects, wet proofs on the production paper are offered. Nothing goes to press until a proof has been signed.
Step five: press check and printing
The first sheets are checked against the signed proof for colour, register and position. Clients are welcome to attend. The approved sheet becomes the reference for the whole run and is checked against at intervals.

Step six: binding and finishing
Sheets are folded into sections, gathered, sewn and glued. Text blocks are trimmed, edges gilded or sprayed if specified, and ribbons and headbands applied. Cases are made, foiled and debossed, then the block is cased in and pressed. Slipcases and boxes are made in parallel.
Step seven: inspection and delivery
Every copy is hand inspected for squareness, foil quality, hinge strength and cleanliness. Books are shrink wrapped or individually boxed as specified, packed in double wall cartons and dispatched for next day delivery across the UK. Typical production time is 7 to 14 working days depending on finishing.
